Leiomioma facial: presentación de un caso / Facial leiomyoma: a case presentation

Se presenta un caso de leiomioma facial. Hasta el 2002 se habían reportado aproximadamente 70 casos en la región bucal y maxilofacial. Teniendo en cuenta la escasa frecuencia de esta entidad, se consideró de interés aportar un nuevo caso, comentando los aspectos clínicos e histopatológicos. Se realizó una revisión del tema. Se presenta una paciente femenina con diagnóstico de leiomioma facial diagnosticada clínica e histológicamente en el Hospital Provincial Clinicoquirúrgico Docente "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" de Camagüey y que fue tratada quirúrgicamente en dicha institución(AU)

A case of facial leiomyoma is reported in this paper. Approximately 70 cases had been reported in the oral and maxillofacial regions until the year 200e. Taking into account the causistry of leiomyoma, we decided to present a new case making comments on clinical and histopathological aspects and to make a literature review in this regard. Técnica de interposición de arco cigomático en la luxación recidivante de la articulación temporomandibular / Interposition technique of zygomatic arch in the recurrent luxation of the temporomandibular joint

Nos propusimos como objetivo la evaluación de la técnica de interposición de arco cigomático en la luxación recidivante de la articulación temporomandibular en 30 pacientes intervenidos de enero de 1995 a julio de 2000. Se empleó un formulario con este fin; el proceso de la información se realizó de forma manual. Los resultados arrojan una efectividad de la técnica de un 100 %, una mayor incidencia del sexo femenino y una apertura bucal que oscila entre 38 y 40 mm.

Sarcoma de kaposi de cavidad bucal en pacientes con sida / Kaposi's sarcoma of the oral cavity in AIDS patients

Se presentó el caso de una paciente de 39 años de edad afectada de sida con sarcoma de Kaposi de cavidad bucal. Se expresaron las características de esa entidad, así como su clasificación y tratamiento. Señalamos las lesiones bucales más importantes en el sida y la necesidad de que el estomatólogo y el médico conozcan los aspectos epidemiológicos de la infección por VIH y muy especialmente sus manifestaciones bucales.

A case of a 39 year old patient affected by AIDS with Kaposi´s Sarcoma of the oral cavity is presented. Characteristics of this disease are expressed as well as its classification and treatment. We present the most important oral lesions in AIDS and the need that the odontologist and the physician know all epidemiological aspects of the HIV infection and specially its oral manifestations.

Eficacia de la terapia laser en la estomatitis subprótesis. Estudio preliminar / Efecctivenes of the laser therapy in the subprosthetic stomatitis. Preliminary Study

Con el objetivo de evaluar la eficacia de la terapia LASER de HeNe en la estomatitis subprótesis, se realizó un ensayo clínico fase II, abierto en la Clínica Estomatológica Docente Provincial de Camagüey durante el período de septiembre de 1998 a septiembre de 1999. Luego de haber aplicado los criterios de inclusión y exclusión la muestra quedó constituida por 24 pacientes de ambos sexos y mayores de 15 años con diagnóstico de estomatitis subprótesis. Para el tratamiento se utilizó el equipo LASER-Med 101 MD, de fabricación cubana empleando la técnica puntual local y de barrido con el parámetro antinflamatorio. Las primeras cinco sesiones se aplicaron con una frecuencia diaria y con parámetros regenerativos, las cinco sesiones siguientes en días alternos. Predominó el sexo femenino y la mayoría de los pacientes presentó estomatitis subprótesis grado II. Resultó significativo el número de pacientes curados al finalizar el tratamiento (2, 339 E-0, 3), no se encontró asociación estadística entre el hábito de fumar y la eficacia del tratamiento. La totalidad de los pacientes que presentaron síntomas se encontraban asintomáticos al finalizar el tratamiento. Se concluye que la terapia LASER es un tratamiento eficaz de elección en la estomatitis subprótesis.

With the aim of evolucting the effectiveness of the lasertherapy of HeNE in subprosthetic stomatitis, a phase II, open clinical eassy was carried out in the Provincial Teaching Dental Clinic of Camaguey during the period from Sept. 1998 to Sept 1999. After the aplication of the inclusion and exclusion criterio the sample was composed of 24 patients of both sexes and older than 15 years with diagnosis of S.S. The Laser-Med 101 MD of Cuban manufacture was used for the treatment using the local puntual technique of Barrido with antinflamatory parameter. The following five sessions in alternate days. The femenine sex prevailed and the majority of patients presented stage II S.S. The number of patients cured was significant at the end of the treatment (2, 339E-0, 3), no statistical association was found among the Smoking habit and the effectiveness of the treatment. Those patients who presented symptoms were asymptomatic at the end of the treatment of choice in the S.S.
